First taken up by the overlander from New South Wales James Templeton in 1837 to 1840 (25,000 acres). Owned by the Johnstone family in the 1860s

In 1876 the license was held by Richard Robert Woolcott and David Evans, ? acres , the half yearly license fee was £73/ 7/ 6

The school opened in 1871. James Wallace was the teacher at Hurdle Creek for a time from 1873. (RC14415)

Wallace was removed from the school the week before the Glenrowan siege in June 1880
