THE MANSFIELD TRAGEDY

Telegrams from Mansfield and Wangaratta, dated Thursday states:- The three horses belonging to the Kelly gang were found a few days since near the scene of the murders, and to-day two horses riddden by the murdered troopers, one of which belonged to the late Sergeant Kennedy, were found on the Warby Ranges, between Wangaratta and Benalla. There were neither saddles nor bridles with them.

A rumor has just been spread here that the Kellys had surrendered, but it is not confirmed by the police nor by any good authority. The report seems to have originated in Melbourne. Detective Ward and his party found to-day in the Warby Ranges, two of the horses taken from Sergeant Kennedy and his party by the Kellys at the time of the murders. Ward believes that they will succeed in tracing the others.
