APPENDIX 20

MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS AT MEETINGS HELD BY THE ROYAL COMMISSION .

TUESDAY, 29TH MARCH 1881.

Present:

Mr. LONGMORE in the Chair;

Mr Anderson, Mr Gibb

Mr Dixon, Mr Hall

Mr Fincham, Mr Levey

Mr Graves

The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Ordered — That application be made to the Honorable the Chief Secretary for a more suitable room in which to hold the meetings of the Commission.

Ordered —That application be made to the Police Department for the record taken of the capture of Power the bushranger.

Ordered —That a return be furnished to the Commission giving statistics regarding bushranging in Victoria and New South Wales from about 1860 to the present time, with a view of showing more particularly the length of time during which the criminals succeeded in evading capture, the expenses connected with their pursuit, &c., &c.

Ordered —A return of the secret-service money disbursed during the pursuit of the Kelly gang.

Ordered —papers relating to the removal of Constable Flood from Greta before 1877.

Mr. Nicolson and further examined. Direct examination closed.

Mr. O'Connor called and examination proceeded with.

The meeting adjourned until the following day, at Eleven o'clock.
