The Local Land Board will sit on Monday at 10 am, and as there are several applications to be heard, those having business should attend punctually, in order to pre vent delay.

There has during the last week been a great deal of sickness amongst children in the township, but we are happy to say no fatality. Councillor James Dunn was taken seriously ill on .Monday night, the symptoms at one time being considered dangerous, but under tile care of Dr Ferguson is, we are glad to say, now all right again.

It is the intention of Messrs M'Kay and Curtis to hold a monthly sale of stock at Alexandra, and judging from the late sale, it will no doubt prove a success, as now breeders need not send their fat cattle to Melbourne, as here will be a ready market. The buyer who came up with Mr M'Kay giving from £6 10s to £30 per head for stock, and will be in a position to operate monthly, therefore all persons who may have cattle to dispose of will do well to communicate early with the auctioneers either at Alexandra or Kilmore, in order that arrangements may be made with buyers at a distance, which cannot be done if the entries are left until the last day or two.

We are in receipt of the October number of the Temperance News, a publication full of useful and instructive information, more especially to those who are members of the societies whose welfare and prosperity it more immediately advocates, besides containing a fund of information upon general topics.

We have to acknowledge the receipt of the Illustrated Australian News for October, which as usual contains some very fine engravings, and those who wish to send home to their friends a token cannot do better than post a copy by the outgoing mail.

We are requested to mention that the banquet to Mr Hunt, MP, takes place on Thursday next, the 10thl inst., at Yea; tickets 10s 6d each, and we hear that the affair is likely to be a great success.

The Rev. W Hutchinson, A.B., will conduct public worship in Alexandra at 11 am, and also at 7 pm, and will lecture in Mr Armstrong's school house, Acheron, at 3 pm. The Rev. J A Osborne, will preach at Thornton at 11 am, Upper Thornton .30 pm, and Alexandra at 7 pm.

The secretary of the Alexandra Cricket Club sends us the following items :- On Saturday last a good number of the members turned out for practice, and the play of several new members gave promise of a successful season, that is, if they will continue to attend. On Saturday next, at 2 pm, a scratch match will come off on the practice ground, and as there is a prospect of opening the campaign with Gobur shortly, all those who can conveniently do so are requested to be present.

All shares in tile Amalgamated Quarts Mining Company, Alexandra, upon which the 5th call is unpaid, are advertised for sale on 8th October, at the auction rooms of Mr Bliss, Collins-street, Melbourne.
