THE KELLY GANG

A STRANGE STATEMENT

LONDON , July 16

A strange statement is made by the Pretoria correspondent of the "Daily Express."

He says that Dan Kelly and Steve Hart, members of the Kelly gang of bushrangers, served under assumed names in a British irregular corps during the late war, and have returned to Australia .

[As is well known, Dan Kelly and Steve Hart were killed on June 27, 1880 , near Beechworth, when Byrne was also killed, and Ned Kelly, the leader, was captured. Two cousins of the Kellys went to the war with one of the Victorian contingents, and hence, doubtless, the mistake made by the correspondent of the "Daily Express."]
