SATURDAY EVENING
The Police Commission sat here to day, and took evidence relative to the proposed employment of extra constables, at the expense of the municipalities which may require them. Evidence was also heard relative to the appointment of the keeper of the local powder magazine, as a statement had been made to the effect that the appointment had been made by Major Smith, under political influence. As the reporters were not admitted to the room in which the proceedings were held, very little is known of the sitting; but it is said that some- extraordinary disclosures have been made in connexion with the appointment of locker of the powder magazine, in which others, besides Major Smith, are involved..
