A special meeting of the Police [[Royal Commission-followup|Commission]] was held yesterday afternoon to consider the reply of the Chief Secretary as to whether the Government intended to appoint a board to investigate the charges preferred against Superintendent [[Winch|Winch]] and Sub-inspector '''Larner''' of improperly borrowing sums of money from a publican. The reply was that the Government had no intention of taking any further steps in the matter, and the commission were thus left free to act as they pleased. After a discussion it was agreed that the charges should be investigated. Subsequently the chairman received another letter from the Chief Secretary, informing him that Mr Winch had applied for a board of inquiry on his case. The Government having decided to grant Mr. Winch's request, and the board will probably be appointed to-day by the Chief Secretary. If Mr. Larner asks that the charge made against him may be investigated it will be referred to the same board.
