I had been away a lot with work and I was not all that sure about young [[Ellen (Frost) Kelly|Ellen]]. Mrs Kelly had the birth registered as 'Ellen Kelly'. Mrs Kelly then sued me for maintenance. I went to see '''Mr Pow''' the solicitor in Benalla. I was was about to marry another local girl at this time. The case was heard before the Magistrate, '''[[Beechworth Court|Mr Butler]]''' on 17 October [[1864-1873 Events|1871]]. I was found to be the father and ordered to pay me 5/- shillings per week for two years and £7 /2/- shillings in costs. I was also ordered to put up 2 securities of £20 each to make sure that I paid.
