Changes

The Police Commission sat at [[Benalla|Benalla]] yesterday, and took a large quantity of evidence the sitting beginning about 11 o'clock am, and lasting until late in the evening. In visiting the North eastern district on this occasion, the special object of the commission was to obtain evidence regarding the conduct of Mr O'Connor and the black trackers under him in connexion with the Kelly operations. In consequence of the contemplated appointment of Mr O'Connor to the post of Inspector of police in the North eastern district, the Chief Secretary requested the commission to send in a progress report as soon as possible on the subject of Mr O'Connor's conduct and hence this visit to Benalla. The witnesses examined yesterday were questioned chiefly with regard to the Glonrowan affair. In order to obtain some idea of the place the commission contemplate visiting Glenrowan to day. They will return to Melbourne to night. We hold over our report of the evidence.
