Power , the bushranger, stuck up the Jamieson mail on Tuesday last near; the Devil's River. He took one of the shaft horses out of the coach, and searched the mail bags. Whilst in the act of doing this an old Frenchman rode up, who was ordered to stand. Not understanding English, he was about to ride past, when Power levelled his gun at him. Peter Thompson, the coach man, said, "Don't shoot him; he does not understand you." "I will soon make him, understand me," replied Power, and was about to fire when the unfortunate Frenchman became aware of his position from the coachman's gesticulations. A number of letters opened by Power arrived in Alexandra on Wednesday last. One addressed to the Union Bank contained instructions of an enclosure of a £5 note, which, of course, was extracted.
