'''Early years''' I was born in 1820 in Ireland near Tipperary in the poverty of a 3/8 acre farm.
Sentenced on 1 January 1841, probably for stealing to stay alive and finally transported on a ship called the Prince Regent and sent to Van Dieman's Land (now Tasmania).
Arrived in Hobart Town in January 1842.
I worked in a number of positions in convict camps at Browns River, Morven, Perth, near Launceston. I was granted a ticket of leave in 1845 and his certificate of freedom in 1848.
