THE MANSFIELD TRAGEDY

The police authorities have received no further intelligence with regard to the Mansfield murderers. Superintendent Nicolson ,visited Melbourne on Saturday for the purpose of conferring with the chief commissioner, and returned to the scene of action the same evening. The following telegram, came to ,hand from our own correspondents Monday:-

SEYMOUR, 17th November.--

Intelligence was received here at eleven o'clock, last night that a house kept by a person named Woods situated between Seymour, and Murchison, had been stuck up and robbed by two armed men about one o'clock yesterday morning. One of the robbers wore a mask, and they were both well mounted. The horses are described – one as a dapple grey and the other as a brown. Sergeant, Purcell, of Seymour, and Constable Ross, of Avenel, started at mid night for the scene of the robbery, which is about twenty five miles distant from here, but up to six o'clock this evening nothing had, been heard of them. As a matter of course the robbery is attributed to Kelly, or some of his gang.

Wangaratta 16th November.--

In reference to the Kelly party, reliable information has. been received that Stephen Hart is one of the murderers. Nothing else has transpired here.
