In October 1877 horses stolen some time before from James Whitty were found in Howlong. William Baumgarten was found guilty of stealing the horses from Whitty and others near Greta.

My friends William and Gustav Baumgarten, John Studders and I were charged with receiving the animals knowing that they had been stolen. While I knew Ned Kelly I was not involved in this matter and the case against me was adjourned. Was Ned Kelly the Thompson who the police could not find. Det Brown investigated us. Eventually William Baumgarten and I were taken to trail in the Supreme Court in Beechworth in October 1878 before Mr Justice Barry. We were found guilty and I received 6 years in goal. William got 4 years

Jerilderie Robbery 10/2/1879 Did I help look after the town Glenrowan Siege 28/6/1880 Was I there to assist down at the railway line After the Siege I retained my friendship with Bricky Williamson for the rest of my life

I died in 1942
