(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT)

Since my last letter a little boy, son of Mr Martin O'Connor, died from diphtheria. There have been five cases, but under the skilful treatment of Dr Cheyne four patients recovered, and the doctor believes we have now seen the last of this virulent disease, at least for a time.

There are two nominations for the vacant seat in the Shire Council. It was hoped Mr R F Taylor would come forward to contest; the vacant seat but that gentleman declining, Mr E G Webster was prevailed on to do so by the opponents of Mr J D Webster at the eleventh hour. It is expected the election will be a close one, as both candidates are diligently canvassing the ratepapers, who seem very much divided in opinion as to their respective merits.

A grand concert will be held next month (June) in aid of the building fund of the Presbyterian Church. All the available talent, including some visitors from Melbourne, has been secured for the occasion, and I confidently predict a great success. An amusing three "'The Spectre Bridegroom" is also to be acted, in which Messer’s M'Neil, Cameron, Rash, M'Crystal, Purcell, and R F Taylor are to take part.
