THE MANSFIELD MURDERS

[BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH]

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)

CHILTERN, FRIDAY

An important arrest was made to-day. Walter and John Stewart, of Brown's Plains, have, through information, been arrested on suspicion of being accomplices in the movements of the Kelly gang. In the house where they live was discovered one six-chambered revolver, one double-barrelled pistol, one double-barrelled gun, also 50 rounds of metallic cartridges. Walter Stewart is believed to be a companion of both Dan and Ned Kelly, and also of Steven Hart, and has three times suffered for charges proved at various courts of justice. They will be remanded, if possible, to-night to Beechworth Gaol.
