'''Scarcity of Water'''.-The long period of dry weather which we have had has very seriously affected the water supply of the district, and in every part of the diggings a large number of the population is idle in consequence. It is said that the [[Yackandandah|Yackandandah]] Creek was never so dry in the memory of the "oldest inhabitant," and the same might be said of the Nine Mile, Spring Creek, and almost all the streams in the neighbourhood. At [[Buckland|Morse's Creek]], gold-washing operations are altogether suspended for the time. It is no wonder, therefore, that people should complain of the scarcity of money, when it is impossible to wash out our only staple production. A heavy fall of rain is a "consummation devoutly to be wished" by our sluicing population in particular, and the minors generally; but there is no appearance as yet of any change in the weather. Quartz crushing operations, at Morse's Creek, are greatly retarded by the drought, and one of the machines, of which water is the principal motive power, has been at times standing for several days. Of course, the [[Woolshed|Woolshed]], Reid's Creek, and the Napoleon, all suffer from the common misfortune,- Ovens Murray Advertiser March 8.
