The Argus at KellyGang 16/12/1881

(full text transcription)

In compliance with the motion of Sir Charles MacMahon, copies of the communications received by the Chief Secretary from members of the police force, replying to charges brought against them in the report of the Police Commission, were laid before the Assembly last night. The communications are of a voluminous character. They are sent in respectively by the assistant commissioner of police, Mr Nicolson, Superintendents Hare and Sadleir, Detective Ward, and Constable Alexander, who was one of the policemen in the hut at the time Aaron Sherritt was shot. The various writers endeavour to refute the charges of the Police Commission by direct denials and by argument.
