"An assault case of a somewhat peculiar character," writes the ''Ovens and Murray Advertiser''," came before the Benalla Police Court on Thursday. In October, 1865, a race meeting was held at [[Greta|Greta]], and at this meeting, in company with a number of others, was [[Jimmy Quinn|James]] Quinn-one of the family who harboured Power, and who, as well as the notorious bushranger, is now undergoing a sentence at Pentridge - also William Skelton. Something like a free fight seems to have taken place at the close of the meeting, during which, it is alleged by several witnesses, Quinn struck Skelton a violent blow on the head with a bullock yoke, when the latter was lying on the ground. Skelton was seriously injured by the blow, and a warrant was issued for the apprehension of Quinn, but he managed to keep out of the way of the police, in his haunts at the head of the King River, and while he was still lying perdu Skelton took his departure for the old country. Quinn was afterwards arrested by the police, but as there was no prosecutor, he was discharged.
