What was Wanganella like in the late 1870's
William Brodribb gave a wonderful account of his early day at Wanganella in his book 'Recollections of an Australian Squatter 1835 -1883'; of buying sheep around Bathurst, travelling overland via places like Yass and Tumit, of his family living in a tent while he built a house, of the high cost of accommodation on the roads and sleeping in a tent, of taking the family on a trip to Melbourne, of wanting to return to the safety of the Maneroo, of the death of children, and, of the financial stress of being a squatter on Wanganella.

At this time the quick way to get from Wanganella to Goulburn (both in New South Wales ) was as follows, Deniliquin, Echuca, Melbourne, by ship to Sydney then to Goulburn.

While Wanganella was first stocked with cattle but by this time it was stocked with sheep

Wire fences and dams were starting to being constructed (See also T&C2/11/1872)

The town of Wanganella included the Wanganella Inn, built by Mr Brodribb and carried on by Mr Dillon, another hotel, a store carried on by Mr Monash, a school conducted by Mr M'Quade.
