GOBUR

The election for two members of our Board of Advice came off on Wednesday, 9th inst, and resulted in the return of Messrs Purcell and Wedel, the former gentleman polling 85 votes, and the latter 84. The number of votes recorded shows unmistakably there his been a good under current of interest taken in the election. The interest evinced in the election displays a healthy vitality, quite in contrast with former elections, and shows that the ratepayers are arousing themselves to a sense of their responsibilities in education concerns. This is just as it should be, for formerly little interest was felt in the election of our Board of Advice, and the result was anything but satisfactory. That Mr Purcell had 21 votes cast for him in his own district shows him to be held in high esteem, and for Mr Wedel it may be said, lie also has been making his way steadily into the good graces of the electors. We append the results as under :

  Gobur Yarck Durham Total
L. Bidwell 3 0 19 22
J. Cock 10 4 5 19
R. Purcell 12 21 2 85
O. Wedel 14 7 13 84
