Photograph Mass arrest of the sympathizers Was I charged with some sort of offence at Mansfield? (Argus4/1/79)
We were held without ever being given a chance to defend them selves. We were remanded in custody for periods of 7 days. Only one of the sympathizers was effectively represented by a lawyer. The magistrates repeated the remands each week for over 3 months before the sympathizers were finally released See (OMA11/2/1879)
At the start, the arrests had public support in Melbourne but that turned into general contempt for the police. The mass arrests resulted in fewer people being prepared to assist the police or to supply information about the KellyGang
I was finally released after weeks of remands (Argus5/3/79)

Jerilderie Robbery 10/2/1879 I may have dealt with Jacob Wilson for assisting the police (RC4457) Early in 1880 Jacob Wilson says that Jimmy Quinn and I gave him a hard time on 3 April. I dont think that we did. Was this another problem with my name. Perhaps I should change it to Smith or something. Any suggestions? (RC4457) Glenrowan Siege 28/6/1880 was I at there helping the boys? Later I was arrested on a charge of cattle stealing. (Argus28/9/81)
