Circular saws were first tested, and as they failed to resist a rifle ball metal cut off a tank was tried with a like result, and, as a last resource, plough moulds were had recourse to, and with a success already well known.

I met young Reardon Glenrowan this morning. He is improving slowly and is able to go about, but the slugs have not yet been extracted. Young Reardon was shot by Sergeant Steele while trying to escape by the back door, and had it not been for the top rail of the fence, there is no doubt whatever but he would have been shot dead. Steele is not to blame, as if Reardon had thrown up his hands when called upon to do so, instead of attempting escape into the hotel again, he would never have been fired at.

Evening

Kate Kelly has not yet arrived but it is believed she is riding across country, and will appear at the court in the morning.

Mr Gaunson who brought with him a special permit to visit the outlaw, was met at the railway station by Mr Williams, the Governor of the gaol, who at once conveyed him to the prisoner and a lengthened interview took place.

It is stated that the cause of the rupture with Mr Zincke results from the inability of the latter whether from political or private motives I cannot say, to obtain from the Government an order to enable the friends of the outlaw visit him.

Ned Kelly is said to have planted a large amount of the spoil from the Euroa and Jerilderie Bank robberies, and as he is the only survivor of the gang who knows anything about the whereabouts of the spoil, the friends of the outlaw desire to unearth it, and as Mr Zincke could not obtain from the Government the favors that have been given to Mr Gaunson, it was not difficult to bring about a change so desirable to the outlaw and his sympathisers.

Mr Gaunson's interview with Ned Kelly extended till after 12 o'clock to-night. A remand is to be applied for for a week, but if the bench will not grant this, the defence will he prepared to go on next day.

Kelly will he moved from the gaol at 8 o'clock, and the court will open at 10 o'clock.
