History at Mitta Mitta before the KellyGang

First settled in 1840 by Samuel Bowler for William Wyse one of the famous overlanders from New South Wales (19,200). Soon after the property had been taken up by Wyse it was split up into three blocks. That was in about 1845. They were:

Mitta Mitta No 1, on the right bank of the Mitta Mitta River. Wyse passed it on to William Bowler. In 1879 the lease was held by H J Bowler

Mitta Mitta No 2, on the Mitta Mitta River on the other side from Mitta Mitta No1. In 1855 Wyse sold the lease to John Ahearne, but after a dispute he passed it on to H T Bowler in 1857. In about 1860 the lease was owned by Bear and McMahon. It was back in H J Bowler's hands in 1868 and he held it until at least 1875

Mitta Mitta West, south on the west bank of the Mitta Mitta River. In 1868 the lease was owned by William Degraves and later by C and J Delgraves. In 1879 it was owned by William Wilson and J G Dougharty and W G Rhind

In 1876 the license for Mitta Mitta No1 was held by Samuel Bowler, ? acres , the half yearly license fee was £75

In 1876 the license for Mitta Mitta No2 was held by Henry Joseph Bowler, ? acres , the half yearly license fee was £25

In 1876 the license for Mitta Mitta West was held by Charles and John Degraves, ? acres , the half yearly license fee was £31/5
