The sub committee of the Police Commission Messrs Longmore Fincham and Hall MLAs will meet to day for the purpose of considering the future action of the commission and to define the scope of its inquiry. It is understood that the commission will be advised to first deal with the questions of recruiting the service and the appointment and promotion of officers. These matters having been disposed of, the commission will be recommended to consider subjects affecting the subordinate grades in the force. A certain number of delegates from each rank will be examined on general questions of police management but in no case will personal grievances be investigated. The questions of the re-organisation of the detective force and of the payment of superannuation allowances will be also dealt with.


The Police Commission sat yesterday fore noon at the Chief Secretary's department, there being present Messrs F. Longmore (chairman), G R Finchom G W Hall, W Anderson , M LA's, and Mr E J Dixon. After some conversation, it was agreed that during the subsequent meetings the reporters of the press should be excluded, the members agreeing that it would be undesirable to allow reports of their proceedings to be published. The programme of the sub-committee, indicating the scope of the inquiry into the organisation of the force, was adopted, and it was decided to examine Mr Chomley, chief commissioner, on Wednesday


Mr Nicolson, late assistant commissioner of police, was sworn in yesterday as a police magistrate before his Honour Mr Justice Higinbotham in Chambers. Mr Nicolson proceeds at once to the Avoca district to temporarily relieve Mr C V Carr, PM
