Captain Moonlite

Constable Headly swears he saw Scott come out of M'Glede's house, place a rifle to his shoulder and take deliberate aim at Bowen who was stooping down at the time extracting an empty cartridge from his gun. Mrs M'Glede swears that she saw Scott go out of the house, and she immediately heard the report of a gun, when Scott came in and said he had shot a constable.

The case for the Crown is closed, and the prisoners are remanded till tomorrow, when Scott will cross-examine Constable Headly. They will then be charged with robbery under arms.

MOONLITE'S STATEMENTS

The Sydney Daily Telegraph correspondent was locked up in a cell with Moonlite this evening, and had a private conversation with him. He states that Moonlite says he is willing to be hanged if only the lives of his mates, whom he led into the thing and who wanted to surrender, are spared. He insists that they stuck up Wantabadgery station because they were refused rations and turned out some time ago on a cold winters night. Their first success against the police emboldened his followers, and they then thought to do great things.

CONSTABLE BOWEN

Constable Bowen is still in a critical condition. There is little hope of his recovery. The bullet has not yet been extracted.
