Early years I was born in England in 1833
Photograph life with Mrs Ellen Kelly I was a traveller who had worked on a property at Laceby. I came to stay after at Mrs Ellen Kelly's place after she moved to Eleven Mile Creek. We had some good times together but they did not last. I had made up my mind to tell her that I decided to move on and when she told me she was pregnant with my child. I had been away a lot with work and I was not all that sure about young Ellen. Mrs Kelly had the birth registered as 'Ellen Kelly'. Mrs Kelly then sued me for maintenance. I went to see Mr Pow the solicitor in Benalla. I was was about to marry another local girl at this time. The case was heard before the Magistrate, Mr Butler on 17 October 1871. I was found to be the father and ordered to pay me 5/- shillings per week for two years and £7 /2/- shillings in costs. I was also ordered to put up 2 securities of £20 each to make sure that I paid.
Was I the subject of an attempted murder? (Argus1/5/72)
