One of the original squatting runs in the Kelly Country
History at Mungabareena before the KellyGang
On the north bank of the Murray River. Albury is built on the run
Selected in 1835 by William Wyse for Charles H Ebden. He built a house near the Albury waterworks. In 1837 Charles Huon purchased the lease for his sister Elizabeth Mitchell. A second house was built further up stream were a line of rocks cut across the river (Thurgoona).
Later in 1852 a third house at was built at Hawksview. By 1874 most of the run had been selected and the estate was purchased by Scott and Elms. They sold it to Mackellar and Burnett in 1877. King purchased the place in 1888 and he sold it to the Hogan brothers

From 'mun' - something very large, 'gabba' - very tall talk, and 'reena' nice place. Also called Thurgoona - rocky place
