POLICE COMMISSION
7 April 1881
At the sitting of the Police Commission yesterday Superintendent Sadleir began his narrative of the quest after the Kelly gang of bushrangers. His style did not meet with the approval of several of the commissioners who complained that his memory was defective, and that he was unable to give such full and definite information as they expected. Mr Anderson, who acted as chairman in the absence of Mr Longmore, made a suggestion that his colleagues should prepare a list of the points on which they required definite information. This suggestion did not meet with the approval of the other members of the board, as they held that they could not know beforehand all the subjects that Mr Sadleir would refer to in his evidence. The commission adjourned until Tuesday, and Mr Sadleir was requested in the meantime to refresh his memory with the materials at his disposal.
ENFRANCHISING THE POLICE
Mr BERRY, in reply to Mr Mason, said he had several times voted for giving the franchise to the police, and would endeavour to give it to them in any amendment of the Electoral Act.
