=== Summary of the evidence on day 5 of the hearings ===

== 30/3/1881, Insp O'Connor continued his evidence - some brief highlights ==

O'Connor continued his comments about his fellow officers and commenced the day by responding, " In my opinion, Mr Hare's energy was misdirected. Mr. Sadleir, upon several occasions, remonstrated with Mr Hare, and tried to show him the folly of his going out, as he did, upon no information. Before going any further, I wish to state that Captain Standish often spoke of Mr Nicolson in the most disparaging terms. On one occasion, after Captain Standish had been running Mr Nicolson down, Mr Hare replied- "You should not say that; Nicolson is and always was a true and loyal friend to you." On another occasion, Captain Standish, referring to the death of the late Hon. John Thomas Smith, said- "Now Nicolson's billet as Assistant Commissioner will soon be done away with, as the Hon. John Thomas Smith got it for him; the billet is a farce, and it will be all up with him now, as he has not another friend left." Captain Standish never once went out with a party of police the whole time I was with him at Benalla"

What was the response to the robbery of the bank at Lancefield?

What happened after the '''KellyGang''' were cited near Tom Lloyd'd place on 28 September 1879?

In the last week before Ass Com Nicolson left there was a good report of Joe Byrne visiting his mother. Nicolson decided not to follow up with the trackers for fear that the '''KellyGang''' would find out the name of the police informer.

What was the relationship between Standish and Nicolson?

O'Connor was keen to put into evidence the communication between Queensland and Victoria concerning the engagement of the Queensland trackers.
