== 17/5/1881 Const Barry commenced his evidence - some brief highlights ==
Const Barry came to North Eastern Victoria after the Stringy Bark Murders. He was out with a number of search parties. After the Jerilderie robbery he watched Mrs Byrne's home as part of the first cave party. He also took part in the cave party that was organised by Ass Com Nicolson and spent two days in Aaron Sherritt's home.
Const Barry thought that Aaron Sherritt was careless and not a good agent. He had his own explanation for his death.
He traveled to the siege at Glenrowan with Sup Hare and the first party.
He heard Mrs. Stanistreet's voice, and she was saying something that Ned Kelly had only left a moment, and had gone over that way. He did not see the direction that was pointed out. Then Mr. Hare went back to the platform and ordered the horses to be taken out and saddled. Before all the horses were taken out. Const Barry heard a voice, which he understood afterwards to be Bracken's, singing out "The Kellys, the four of them, are at Mrs. Jones's, surround them, surround them." He then went on to explain what happened.
Barry was one of the original party of police at Glenrowan. He described arriving at the station, first shots, Hare shot etc.
Who called the police "murdering hounds,"?

The cave party watching Mrs Byrne gave Const Barry a good insight into the Sherritt family. He worked with Aaron and heard the Sherritt family rowing among themselves. He wanted to get out of the cave party
When the cave party ended Mullane asked Barry to make a report. He said that he had got a telegram from Ward telling the men to make out reports.
Barry produced 2 reports that did not meet Mullane's requirements and Det Ward asked him to produce a third report.
