History at Strathmerton before the KellyGang

First taken up in about 1844 by Benjamin Boyd (192,000 acres). The original holding was spilt up in 1855 into Strathmerton (on Victorian side of the Murray River)(owned by TH Power)

In 1876 the license to Strathmerton East was owned by (Trust and Agency Co of Australia), ? acres, £775 half year license fee

And the license to Strathmerton West was owned by Currie and Dufrayer , 71,680 acres, £391/2/6 half year license fee

Where did the name Strathmerton come from

Strathmerton was named after Benjamin [[../../things/W_propertiesIx.html|Boyd]] home in England which was called Merton. Strath means valley.
