An article in the Morning Advertiser of the 10th April last on the proceeding of the Kelly Gang draws an amusing contrast be tween their doings and those of Mr Graham Berry, which is scarcely flattering to our Premier, but serves to show the views concerning his embassy that are entertained in London. The leader in question says -"If we may judge from the Melbourne papers, two gentlemen for the moment monopolise the interest of the colony of Victoria. These are Mr Berry and Mr Kelly. Mr Berry is the Premier, and is at present in London on a self appointed embassy, the object of which ungenerous opponents declare is to rob the squatters of their lordly acres. Mr Kelly, who divides with the head of the Government the maledictions of the rural districts, still resides at the antipodes, and devotes his attention to the robbery of the squatters in a much more direct manner. He and his Cabinet are in the bushranging business, and in their business 'sticking up' has become a lucrative and far from dangerous profession." The article proceeds to comment upon the long impunity enjoyed by the gang, and describes a state of affairs which is unfortunately, too true, and not calculated to raise Victoria in the estimation of the world.
