BENALLA AGRICULTURAL SHOW

[BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH]

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)

BENALLA, THURSDAY

The first show live stock held under the auspices of the recently formed Benalla Agricultural and Pastoral Association took place to day, and proved a grand success. The weather was everything that could be desired, although somewhat threatening, and the attendance the largest ever seen in Benalla, numbering between 3,000 and 4,000. The number of exhibits was unusually large, especially in machinery and horse stock. The success which has attended the first meeting augurs well for the future of the society.

The show of implements was the largest ever exhibited in the Benalla district, there being no less than 62 entries. It is to be regretted that there was no entry for the best and cheapest self-acting windmill for pumping water on farms. There was no entry for the best threshing machine and steam engine. In produce there was no less than 20 entries, exhibits being really first-class. In dairy produce there were 37 entries, poultry 14 entries. In harness only the local manufacturers exhibited, of which Mr Willis carried off the lion's share. There were few exhibits in swine. Greyhounds were largely represented, no less than 14 dogs being entered. The first prize fell to F Dreyier's Martha and the second to J Brock's Belle.

There was a good show of hacks, ridden by ladies-H Murray's Tom Jones taking first prize. A few fancy cattle and a beautiful Arab horse, the property of Mr Docker, Wangaratta, were on the ground, and numerous special exhibits were to be seen, which were certainly very creditable to the district.
