MANSFIELD MONDAY

The detectives are still at work endeavouring to track the writer of the threatening letters received by Mr Monk but nothing is known as to their progress. Much sympathy is felt for Mr Monk against whom a set seems to have been made by the friends of the Kelly gang. A dam belonging to him has now been opened causing him serious loss/ His family live in a state of terror as to what is to happen next

The Police Memorial Fund is now over £870.

We have had but little rain here and farmers are somewhat disheartened at their prospects

RUTHERGLEN MONDAY

A preliminary meeting was held this evening to arrange for a public meeting to discuss the necessity of abolishing the border tolls and customs duties. Invitations are to be sent by the Mayor of Rutherglen to the public men of the district and Melbourne to give their views on the question
