Importance of Coaches
While the train had replaced the coaches by the late 1870's on many of the main routes, coaches were still an important way to get around in some of the more remote areas. For instance Mansfield was linked to Melbourne by various coach routes who took people to and from the railway line. See the history of !!MISSING

Coach travel was expensive but on occasions the KellyGang's sympathizers used the coaches to get to the trains and to supply the boys with ammunition etc.
